Bio
Jacquelyn Rei studied History at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA and Fine Arts in Photography at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. Her darkroom skills were honed by studying with David Spindler, a former printer of Robert Frank's work, and she was greatly influenced by Brian Parkin who encouraged her exploration with alternative printing processes.
Leaving the west coast for Austin, Jacquelyn worked in the film/television industry as a location scout and set photographer. She produced television commercials and documentaries. Her production work with the Sundance channel featured directors Richard Linklater and David Gordon Green. Her career took a decisive turn when she coordinated an art installation by the esteemed international artists Teresa Hubbard and Alexander Birchler. Inspired by their work, Jacquelyn left the film industry and embarked on the journey of fine art photography and printing.
She studied platinum/palladium printing in New Mexico with David Michael Kennedy which resulted in spending the next six years working together in the gallery and studio. Much of her recent work honors the years she spent in the small village in Northern New Mexico and she continues to celebrate the landscape and cultures of the southwest which is now where she resides.
While platinum palladium remains her preferred medium she has begun exploring with organic processes such as caffenol, anthrotypes and photosynthesis.
Her work has shown in Austin, Taos, Santa Fe, Abiquiui and Johnson City.
